Summary:
- Provide direct care to scheduled patients and walk-in patients, when necessary, including established and new patients of all ages.
- Perform all necessary hygiene services, including oral screenings, x-rays, scaling, polishing, fluoride treatments, pit and fissure sealants, root planning, and curettage.
- Review patient medical history, medications, and consult dentist and medical provider as necessary.
- Take and record vitals.
- Assess and triage pain and dental concerns for scheduled appointments and patients with urgent needs.
- Educate patients on the proper methods of oral hygiene and perform nutritional counseling.
- Maintain a patient recall system.
- Responsible for accurate charting and documentation in a patient’s dental chart within integrated electronic health record.
- Responsible for taking x-rays when appropriate.
- Prepare, disinfect, and sterilize dental equipment, instruments, and operatories as needed in accordance with clinic standards and manufacturers’ instructions.
- Participate in community outreach/education efforts, as appropriate and as assigned. This may include serving as an oral health consultant in our school-based programs, participating in oral health screenings, health education programs, etc.
- Recognize nutritional and behavioral health needs of the patients and make appropriate referrals.
- Consult and collaborate with other health center staff as appropriate.
- Participate in appropriate departmental and health center meetings.
- Participate in quality improvement activities as required by the health center or outside agency.
- Participate in on-site and off-site continuing education programs and in-service trainings to maintain licensure, comply with health center requirements, and to meet the needs of patients.
- Other duties as needed or required.
Requirements:
- Current and valid license to practice dental hygiene in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, local anesthesia permit preferred.
- International applicants welcome. Must be eligible to practice dentistry in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, including, if applicable, a minimum passing score on TOEFL or IELTS exam.
- At least one year of experience preferred.
- Spanish, Portuguese, Khmer, Kiswahili language skills a plus.
