Job Summary

The Medical Physics Assistant performs tasks in support of the Medical Physicists in the Department of Radiation oncology. This will include conducting Quality assurnace measurements of linear accelerators, brachytherapy equipment, as well as (non)radiation emitting imaging systems in Radiation Oncology. Work conducted by the medical physics assistant will be under the supervision of a qualified medical physicist. Delivers exceptional assistive medical physics services to all internal and external customers utilizing best practices, nationally recognized standards, and regulations in a manner that ensure the highest level of safety, quality patient care and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson
  • Under the supervision of a qualified medical physicist, performs clinical quality assurance (QA) measurements, including patient specific QA.
  • Under the supervision of a qualified medical physicist maintains and uses standard dosimetry equipment such as ionization chambers, water tanks and various quality assurance devices.
  • Under the supervision of the medical physicist, help with brachytherapy procedures
  • Plays an active role in improving the existing quality control program and supports clinical physics tasks through data collection, troubleshooting and investigative research.
  • Applies knowledge of radiation safety principles to assist the physicians and physicists with brachytherapy seed implant procedures.
  • Is available to work evenings/nights and occasionally on the weekend
