Job Description

Last Update: 10/25/24

To prospective teammates,

I’m the medical director for our new Ascension Borgess Allegan Hospital hospitalist program in Allegan, Michigan. I have been a part of Sound Physicians for six years. We are starting this hospitalist practice on July 1, 2024. We welcome interest from hospitalist advanced practice providers (APPs) desiring a career change. I want to share more about it, specifically about our people, practice, and purpose, as you consider options:

People
  • We are building a team of two advanced practice providers. We will have one APP that works independently and manages their own census of patients daily from 7 am to 7 pm. The APP works in conjunction with a physician providing remote supervision. The last admissions are taken at 6 PM.
  • We expect our APPs to participate in multi-disciplinary rounds with case management, nursing, and pharmacy. We also encourage our providers to join hospital committees and quality directives.
Practice
  • Ascension Borgess Allegan Hospital is a full-service, 25-bed critical access hospital. There is no ICU. Our APPs care for inpatients in this low-acuity facility. The average census fluctuates between 7-10 patients daily, with three to four patients being low acuity swing bed patients.
  • Our group will hold two team meetings a month, which are used to communicate trends, hospital news, and group performance.
  • Allegan is a rural community in Southwestern Michigan. It offers a variety of outdoor activities, including hiking, kayaking on the Kalamazoo River, cycling, swimming, and show-shoeing in the winter. Lake Michigan is 30 minutes away for those who enjoy beaches and boating on the big lake.
  • A flexible schedule is available, and we cover for each other when we’re out.
  • Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, and AD&D insurance, long- and short-term disability, 401k with match, paid medical malpractice and tail coverage, and annual CME allowance.
Purpose
  • We put patients first. Always.
  • A focus on growth and development is a key feature of Sound’s practices, where teammates can expand their careers here locally and within the broader medical group.
  • We are a community-minded team and encourage our team members who want to contribute in and out of the hospital to help make our local community thrive.

More about our community: People enjoy living in Allegan, Michigan, for its historic downtown area, scenic landscapes, and tight-knit community feel. With its proximity to Lake Michigan and numerous outdoor recreational opportunities, residents appreciate the natural beauty and peaceful lifestyle Allegan offers while still being within reach of larger cities like Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids for additional amenities and employment opportunities.
