We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Physician Assistant (PA) to join the Emergency Medicine team. This part-time locum tenens position focuses on delivering high-quality care to a diverse patient population in a fast-paced emergency department environment.

The role includes night shifts (7 PM - 7 AM), covering 5-6 shifts per month. Occasional coverage for other shifts may also be required. This position also includes responsibilities at UPMC Altoona, offering opportunities to collaborate across facilities.

  • Provide direct care to a mix of adult (80%) and pediatric (20%) emergency department patients.
  • Manage and treat lower acuity cases, including procedures such as I&Ds and laceration repairs.
  • Collaborate with attending physicians for higher-acuity or critically ill cases.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as radiology and lab reviews when required.
  • Maintain certifications and participate in mandatory training, including EMTALA education and stroke CME.

Job Responsibilities

Qualifications

Board Certification: Required for Emergency Medicine PAs.
Licensure: Active Pennsylvania state license.
Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS (American Heart Association or Red Cross).
Minimum of 2 years of Emergency Department experience is required.
NIH Stroke Scale certification must be kept current.

Working Hours

Primary Shifts: 7 PM - 7 AM (5-6 shifts per month).
Additional Shifts: 7 AM - 7 PM, 9 AM - 9 PM, as needed.
Physicians are available for supervision during night shifts.

Skills

Strong clinical expertise in Emergency Medicine.
Competence in minor procedures, including wound care, laceration repair, and I&D.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
