The Augusta VA Health Care System is seeking a dedicated and qualified Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our team in delivering exceptional care to our nation's Veterans.

Requirements:

  • Education:

    • Physician Assistant: Graduate of an accredited PA program.

    • Nurse Practitioner: Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP).

  • Experience:

    • Board certification or a minimum of 5 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience.

  • Certifications (One of the following or 5+ years ED experience):

    • PA: Society of Emergency Medicine Physician Assistants

    • NP: American Academy of Emergency Nurse Practitioners (AAENP)

  • Licensure:

    • Active, unrestricted license (PA, RN, or APN) in any U.S. state, territory, or D.C.

    • National Provider Identifier (NPI)

    • DEA Registration

  • Life Support Certifications:

    • Basic Life Support (BLS)

    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

  • Additional Requirements:

    • U.S. Citizenship

    • Proficient in English (spoken and written)

    • Physically able to perform duties, including standing/sitting for extended periods

Job Responsibilities

• Employment of the principles of emergency care for life/limb threats, resuscitation and stabilization, triage, diagnosis, and disposition. Initial evaluation, emergent treatment and management of minor wound care, respiratory illness, gastrointestinal illness, burns, musculoskeletal trauma, dermatological illness, ENT, eye and urological problems. Initial evaluation, emergent treatment and management of minor procedures such as local infiltration anesthesia, incision and drainage, simple laceration repair, nail trephination, electro-coagulation, nasal cautery, gastric lavage, bladder catheterization, peripheral venous line insertion, and spinal immobilization.

Qualifications

POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS:
• Degree/Education:
o Physician Assistant: Graduation from a physician assistant educational program and accredited by the Accreditation Review Committee on Education from the Physician Assistant its predecessors, at a college, university or educational institution that is accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the US Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained
o Nurse Practitioner: Possess Master of Science in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice Degree.
• Experience: Must have Board certification or 5 years of ED experience.
• Board Certifications: (Must have one of the below or 5 years of ED experience)
o Physician Assistant: Society of Emergency Medicine Physician Assistants
o Nurse Practitioner: the American Academy of Emergency Nurse Practitioners (AAENP)
• Licensure(s):
o Possess current unrestricted license to practice as a Physician Assistant, Registered Nurse, or Advanced Practice Nurse in one of the fifty states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
o NPI National Provider Identifier
o DEA Drug Enforcement Agency
• Cardiac Certifications:
o BLS Basic Life Support Certification
o ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support
• U.S. Citizenship: HCWs performing under this contract shall be U.S. citizens.
• English Language Requirement: The Contractor shall ensure that all HCWs providing services under this contract are able to read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate.
• HCW Physical Capability: HCWs shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and physically capable of performing all services required under the contract.

Working Hours

The ED operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year including Federal Holidays.
3 days per week (2 week days and 1 weekend day)
