First Physicians Group of Sarasota Memorial Health Care System
is seeking to employ (2) Physician Assistants (PA-C) to join their Acute Care Surgery team consisting of surgical ICU, trauma, and emergency general surgery.

Sarasota is located approximately 60 minutes south of Tampa. The area is known for the arts, great restaurants, world-class beaches, excellent schools, and a wide variety of activities for all ages.

Position Highlight:

  • Join nine (9) Trauma/General/Surgical Critical Care Surgeons and 20 Advanced Practice Providers.
  • SMH is a Level II Trauma Center, a Comprehensive Stroke Center and the only hospital providing trauma care services in Sarasota County.
  • FDOH Designation Trauma Center since 2016 and re-designated in 2023 with no deficiencies.
  • Over 175,000 emergency visits and 2800 Trauma Activations annually

Responsibilities include:

  • 13 shifts a month working the night shift 6:00 P.M. – 6:00 A.M. Must be flexible and willing to work occasional weekends and holidays.
  • Trauma response in the Emergency Department, rounding in Surgical Trauma ICU and hospital floors.
  • PA-C will see patients in the general surgery and trauma acute care outpatient clinic and provide Surgical First Assist in the operating room for both elective, acute care, and traumatic surgical cases.
  • Ability to perform procedures including, but not limited to, placement and removal of chest tubes, arterial lines, and central venous catheters.

Requirements:

  • NCCPA Certified with a license to practice in Florida.
  • ACLS/BLS required. ATLS is preferred and can be obtained at Sarasota Memorial Hospital if not currently certified.
  • Trauma experience required. ICU experience is preferred.
  • Qualified candidate must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and ability to work within a team.
