Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant to join our dynamic team of surgeons, cardiologists, and healthcare professionals. The successful candidate will assist in providing exceptional care to patients with cardiovascular and thoracic conditions, both pre- and post-operatively, and during surgical procedures. The ideal candidate will have experience in cardiothoracic surgery or a related specialty, and a passion for patient care.
Job Responsibilities
Pre-operative Care:
Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including medical history, physical exams, and diagnostic testing.
Review imaging and lab results, and collaborate with the surgical team to plan treatment.
Educate patients and families about upcoming procedures and post-surgical recovery.
Surgical Assistance:
Assist cardiothoracic surgeons in the operating room during heart and lung surgeries, including coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), heart valve surgery, lung resections, and more.
Perform tasks such as suturing, tissue handling, and ensuring hemostasis during surgery.
Post-operative Care:
Provide direct care to patients in the ICU or recovery units, including monitoring vitals, managing pain, and identifying post-surgical complications.
Write post-operative orders for medications, diet, and activities.
Coordinate patient discharge plans and follow-up care.
Patient Education and Follow-up:
Educate patients about recovery plans, medications, and necessary lifestyle changes.
Conduct follow-up visits to monitor progress and manage any long-term care requirements.
Collaboration:
Work closely with cardiologists, pulmonologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care.
Actively participate in team meetings, case discussions, and surgical rounds.
Qualifications
Master’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
Certification as a Physician Assistant (PA-C) and licensure to practice in WI.
Minimum of 1 years of experience in cardiothoracic surgery, cardiology, or a related specialty.
Experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings is preferred.
Strong clinical skills with the ability to make quick decisions in critical care environments.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
ACLS certification required.
