Matrix Providers is hiring a Physician Assistant (Cardiology) to join our team of talented professionals who provide health care services to our Military Service Members and their families at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas, Nevada

  • Employment Status: Fulltime
  • Compensation: This is a salaried position
  • Schedule: 40 hours work week, which would be derived from five 8 hours shifts or
    four 10 hour shift whichever the schedule demands

Requirements: The Physician Assistant must have and meet the following:

  • Degree/Education : Be a graduate Physician Assistant qualified by academic and practical education to provide patient services as a physician extender under supervision of a physician. Be accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), or its predecessors, and acceptable to the Surgeon General, USAF, is mandatory.
  • Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support : At a minimum all HCWs must
    maintain, at the contractor’s expense, current certification Basic Life Support (BLS)
    (Course C), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) through the American Heart
    Association or a Red cross-approved training program. Course (cards must display the
    American Heart Association or Military Training Network emblem). Some on-site training
    may be available at the MTF on a space available basis; however, the contractor shall not
    bill and the Government shall not pay for any time HCWs spend in or for certification
    training
  • Experience: Have at least 24 months of experience as a Physician Assistant within the last
    36 months with at least 12 months of cardiology specific experience
  • Board Certification : Certification as a Physician Assistant by the National
    Committee on Certification Physician Assistants (NCCPA) is required
  • Licensure/Registration: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Physician Assistant as required in the TO

Duties:

  • Provides primary or specialty medical care with the cognizance or supervision of a
  • physician.
  • Responsible for a regularly appointed clinic, compatible with workload and, in addition,
  • provide immediate evaluation and management of emergent problems as they occur. Shall
  • have the capability to:
  • Collect and record, in proper format, medical and social historical data appropriate to the
  • patient's condition.
  • Perform a general physical examination
  • May become the primary care manager for a panel of patients. As a PCM, will be the
  • primary person responsible for the management of the health and wellness of assigned
  • patients. Duties include:
  • Examination of patients, formulation differential diagnostic plans, defines and orders
  • required diagnostic testing.
  • Interpretation of examination findings and test results, and implementation of treatment
  • plans.
  • Determines need for consultation and assists in medical care and treatment provided at the
  • direction of other specialists.
  • Approving/disapproving subspecialty referrals.
  • Answering patient telephone consults with the assistance of clinic staff.
  • Providing primary and secondary preventive maintenance care.
  • Admit, round on, and discharge inpatients as per the local MTF instructions.
  • Recognize those more complicated cases, initiate treatment (if appropriate), and refer to a
  • higher level of medical expertise for diagnosis and/or treatment.
  • Plan and initiate proper treatment within defined privileges and the scope of practice of the
  • facility.
  • Identify and report those situations and individual cases which have public health
  • significance and carry out effective control measures.
  • Clearly communicate to other health personnel either orally or in writing the findings,
  • diagnosis, and planned treatment regimen.
  • Stabilize and manage a patient in a medical or surgical emergency and/or transfer to
  • physician care.
  • Determine appropriate means of evacuation of emergency patients, prepare patients for
  • evacuation, and arrange for evacuation support.
  • Maintain inpatient and outpatient medical records in accordance with MTF procedures.
  • Ability to prepare records and reports as required in support of services rendered in
  • accordance with established procedures and utilizing the current medical information
  • systems and electronic health record and the knowledge of outpatient coding and medical
  • informatics. Collect and record, in proper format, medical and social historical data
  • appropriate to the patient's condition.
  • Knowledge of a variety of pharmacological agents used outpatient treatment, the desired
  • effects, side effects, and complications of their use as well as the accurate administration of
  • the pharmacologic agent, including dosage calculations as required.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to other health personnel either orally or in writing the
  • findings, diagnosis, and planned treatment regimen.
  • Ability to recognize adverse signs and symptoms and react/respond quickly by
  • communicating with other members of the health care team verbally or overhead paging or
  • via telephone in emergency situations
  • Competent in ECG interpretation
  • Experienced in treadmill stress testing, dobutamine and exercise stress echocardiography,
  • exercise and vasodilator stress nuclear testing, cardiac device implantation, office
  • management, and home monitoring.
  • Experienced in preventative care such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia, smoking cessation,
  • exercise, weight loss, good dietary education, and primary risk assessment and treatments
  • Experienced in atrial and ventricular arrhythmias, their evaluation, prognosis, and treatment
  • strategies
  • Experienced in chronic and acute coronary syndromes to include their evaluation and
  • treatment both mechanical and pharmacologically.
  • Experience and education in the vast pathophysiology and pharmacology associated with a
  • diverse cardiovascular and peripheral vascular practice
  • Experience and understanding the management of extra cranial carotid arterial disease,
  • thoracic aortic aneurisms, abdominal aortic aneurisms, acute and chronic mesenteric
  • ischemia, renal artery stenosis, fibromuscular dysplasia, lower extremity claudication, acute
  • limb ischemia, and chronic limb ischemia.
  • Experience in venous disorders
  • Experience in wound care associated with venous or arterial disease
  • Understanding of advanced cardiac procedures such as cardiac bypass surgery, valvular
  • replacement to include catheter based techniques, mechanical circulatory support, and
  • cardiac transplant
