Job Overview:
We are seeking experienced Advanced Practice Providers (Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants) with a background in trauma surgery for locum tenens opportunities in Virginia. This role involves assisting trauma and acute care surgeons in both emergency and inpatient settings. Candidates must have strong procedural skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist trauma surgeons in the initial evaluation and management of injured patients following ATLS protocol
- Manage acute care surgery consultations in the Emergency Department and hospital settings
- Provide care for trauma and acute care surgery patients throughout their hospital stay, including the ICU
- Perform bedside procedures (e.g., suturing, thoracostomy tube insertion/removal, arterial/central line placement) if credentialed
- Conduct daily rounds and tertiary surveys on admitted trauma patients
- Order and interpret laboratory tests, imaging, and other diagnostic studies
- Prescribe medications and treatments as needed
- Coordinate care with consultants, allied health providers, nursing staff, case managers, and social workers
- Assist with outpatient follow-up and clinic evaluations
- Ensure thorough documentation and compliance with billing procedures
Requirements:
- Active Virginia (VA) medical license & VA DEA
- ATLS certification required
- Proven trauma experience required
- Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) certification
- Ability to work 3–5 shifts per trip preferred
