Job Summary:

The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) specializes in providing comprehensive mental health care to adolescent patients. This role is critical in diagnosing and treating psychiatric disorders, emotional disturbances, and behavioral challenges in individuals aged 12 to 18 years. The PMHNP collaborates with families, therapists, and other healthcare providers to develop age-appropriate treatment plans, offer counseling, and ensure optimal patient outcomes in both outpatient and inpatient settings.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and mental health assessments for adolescent patients (ages 12-18).
  • Develop individualized and developmentally appropriate treatment plans for adolescent mental health disorders, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, and mood disorders.
  • Prescribe, manage, and monitor psychotropic medications, ensuring safety and efficacy in adolescent patients.
  • Provide crisis intervention and emergency psychiatric care when needed.
  • Educate adolescents and their families on mental health conditions, treatment plans, medication management, and available support resources.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including therapists, school counselors, physicians, and case managers, to ensure holistic care.
  • Monitor and document patient progress, treatment responses, and medication adjustments.
  • Advocate for adolescent patients, ensuring access to the necessary resources and a supportive treatment environment.
  • Stay updated on best practices and advancements in adolescent psychiatry and behavioral health.
  • Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA and confidentiality regulations.

Prerequisites / License & Certification Requirements:

  • Active Arizona State Nurse Practitioner (NP) License
  • Completion of a PMHNP Program in the United States (excluding Puerto Rico)
