Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Nurse Practitioner to join our correctional healthcare team. The Correctional Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for providing comprehensive healthcare services to incarcerated individuals within our correctional facility. This role involves assessing, diagnosing, and treating acute and chronic medical conditions, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and promoting health education and preventive care initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive health assessments, including physical examinations and medical history reviews, for incarcerated individuals.
- Evaluate, diagnose, and treat a variety of acute and chronic medical conditions, following evidence-based practice guidelines and protocols.
- Prescribe medications and treatments as appropriate, in accordance with state regulations and facility policies.
- Perform minor medical procedures such as wound care, suturing, and administering injections.
- Monitor and manage chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and mental health disorders within the correctional setting.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, mental health professionals, and other healthcare team members to coordinate care and ensure continuity of services.
- Respond to medical emergencies and provide timely and appropriate interventions.
- Educate patients on health promotion, disease prevention, and self-management strategies.
- Document all patient encounters, assessments, treatments, and follow-up care accurately and thoroughly in electronic medical records.
- Adhere to all regulatory requirements, including maintaining licensure, certification, and continuing education requirements.
Qualifications:
- Current certification as a Nurse Practitioner in the state CA.
- Advanced knowledge of primary care principles, pharmacology, and evidence-based practice.
- Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse patient populations and interdisciplinary teams.
- Proficiency in using electronic medical records and other healthcare technology.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in a correctional healthcare environment.
