A well established Medical Group in the greater Houston, Texas area is looking for a fulltime and Locum Nurse Practitioner with Oncology experience. This clinic system has several locations and two to currently choose from to work at approximately 7- 8 miles apart.

Qualifications
An Infusion Oncology Nurse Practitioner requires a diverse set of qualifications to effectively care for patients undergoing infusion treatments for cancer. Here’s a comprehensive list:
Completion of a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree program, with a specialization in oncology nursing.
Certification as an Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner (AOCNP) or Advanced Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse (ACHPN) may be required or preferred.
Prior experience as an oncology Nurse Practitioner or Nurse, preferably in an infusion setting, to develop proficiency in administering chemotherapy and managing cancer-related symptoms.
Certification in chemotherapy administration, ensuring competence in handling and administering chemotherapy drugs safely.
Proficiency in pharmacology, including understanding the mechanism of action, side effects, interactions, and dosage calculations of various oncology medications.
Ability to conduct comprehensive health assessments, including physical exams, psychosocial assessments, and symptom management evaluations.
Competence in developing and implementing individualized treatment plans for cancer patients undergoing infusion therapy, considering their specific diagnosis, stage, and treatment goals.
Skill in assessing and managing cancer-related pain, including the use of pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.
Proficiency in recognizing and managing side effects of chemotherapy, such as nausea, vomiting, fatigue, neuropathy, and immunosuppression.
Competence in the care and maintenance of central venous access devices (e.g., PICC lines, ports) for chemotherapy administration.
Ability to provide comprehensive education to patients and their families about their diagnosis, treatment options, potential side effects, self-care strategies, and supportive care resources.
Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with oncologists, other healthcare providers, and interdisciplinary team members involved in the patient’s care.
Capacity to critically analyze complex clinical situations, anticipate potential complications, and implement appropriate interventions promptly.
Resilience to cope with the emotional challenges of working with cancer patients and their families, coupled with empathy and compassion in providing holistic care.
Commitment to ongoing professional development through participation in continuing education programs, conferences, and workshops to stay abreast of advances in oncology nursing practice.
Familiarity with legal and ethical standards governing oncology nursing practice, including patient confidentiality, informed consent, and end-of-life care decision-making.
Ability to incorporate evidence-based practice into clinical decision-making and contribute to research initiatives aimed at improving oncology nursing care and patient outcomes.
