We are seeking an experienced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) for a locum tenens opportunity at a large academic medical center in Illinois. This role involves providing advanced neonatal care in a high-acuity Level 4 NICU setting, working collaboratively with a team of fellows, residents, neonatologists, and respiratory therapists.
  • Facility Type: Large academic medical center with a Level 4 NICU.
  • NICU Beds: 60-65 beds (including 5 twin rooms).
  • Team: Includes attending neonatologists, fellows, residents, and respiratory therapists.

Job Responsibilities

Provide care for 15-20 neonatal patients during a 12-hour shift.
Attend and manage high-risk deliveries, performing newborn resuscitation and stabilization for all gestational ages.
Perform advanced neonatal procedures, including:
Umbilical line placement.
Central and peripherally inserted central line placement.
Arterial line placement.
Intubation.
Chest tube placement.
Lumbar punctures.
Work in the NICU and step-down units (no well-baby unit coverage).

Qualifications

Board Status: Board Certified/Board Eligible.
Licenses/Certifications:
Active Illinois state license (required).
DEA license.
PALS certification.
Illinois CSR license.
Experience: Minimum 1 year, with competency in Level 4 NICU care and neonatal procedures.

Working Hours

Shifts/Month: Approximately 10 shifts per month.
Shift Types: Nights, 24-hour shifts, and weekends.

Skills

No on-call responsibilities.
No helicopter transport duties.
ECMO not required.
Collaborative team environment with attending neonatologists onsite overnight.
Umbilical line placement.
Central and peripherally inserted central line placement.
Arterial line placement.
Intubation.
Chest tube placement.
