Job Description

Last Update: 6/19/24

To our prospective teammates,

I’m the system medical director for our 4 Intensivist programs within the St David’s Health System located in Austin, TX. I’ve been a part of Sound for 4 years, joining the group in July of 2020 to help establish our first ICU programs in Austin at St David’s Round Rock and North Austin. Due to success at those sites, we expanded to St David’s Med Center and Heart Hospital of Austin in February of 2021. I’m proud of the critical care practice we’ve built and welcome interest from experienced critical care NPs or PAs looking to make a career change.

I’d like to share more about who we are and what we do — specifically about our people, practice, and purpose — as you consider your options:

People
  • We’re a closely knit, established team of 2 intensivists and 2 advanced practice providers (APPs).
  • Our team is comprised of clinicians from diverse geographic, educational, and training backgrounds who lean on and learn from each other in their approach to patient care.
  • Within the hospital, we work closely with our colleagues in other departments to ensure smooth transition of care. Many of us are active in community health initiatives through the hospital.
  • Various members of our team are involved in committees in the ICU and the hospital including the Critical Care Collaborative, pharmacy/therapeutics committee, the ethics committee, and infection prevention committee.
Practice
  • This is a part-time position that entails working 7-8 night shifts per month at St David’s Round Rock Medical Center (RRMC).
  • RRMC is a level III trauma center with excellent cardiac, surgical, and neuroscience services. We have a 22-bed ICU that sees medical, surgical, cardiac surgery, and trauma. Roughly 25% of our patients in the ICU are cardiac patients.
  • We have excellent relationships with consulting services like trauma surgery, neurology, and anesthesia.
  • The APP conducts evening rounds, works with hospitalist on admitting patients to ICU, and performs bedside procedures (central lines, arterial lines, and intubations).
  • The shift is from 7p-7a. An intensivist is available overnight telephonically. Typically, we average 3 admissions per night shift.
  • Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, and AD&D insurance, long- and short-term disability, 401k with match, paid medical malpractice and tail coverage, and annual CME allowance.
Purpose
  • We put patients first. Always.
  • We value and support growth and development in our hospital medicine practice, allowing you to explore new opportunities locally and within the broader medical group.
  • We’re a community-minded team and support involvement and contributions to community health and wellness in and out of the hospital.
