To provide independent advanced practice provider clinical expertise to patients and their families on an on-going basis and oversee other advanced practice practitioners. This includes managing scheduling, time off requests and organizational oversight of the work unit to ensure the competence and qualifications of direct reports. Management of the APP team will be a collaborative effort with the APP manager with contribution and recommendations for hiring, on-boarding and counseling. APP’s are expected to act as an expert resource person for health care providers including nurses, residents and other ancillary staff. Acts as an expert resource person for health care providers in the setting of trauma surgery, orients/precepts new APPs to role responsibilities of the service, establishes standardized procedures and protocols for APP practice, conducts research and teaching programs. Assists in establishing educational opportunities for nurse practitioners. Acts as a liaison for APP supported services and PCS Chief of Advanced Practice. Provides practice supervision for all APP FTEs assigned. Acts in the absence of the program manager. Provides support for the APP direct reports.

The Gastroenterology/Hepatology Advanced Practice Provider, acting as an APP Supervisor II, provides clinical expertise to gastroenterology/hepatology patients and their families in the outpatient arena, is a resource person for health care providers, and participates in gastroenterology/hepatology teaching programs. Provides direct patient care to a diversified patient population. Applies knowledge, experience and judgment to determine the importance of a situation, set priorities, and use abstract thought to evaluate clinical situations. Participates in patient and staff education. Demonstrates leadership skills. Demonstrates accountability for own practices as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of NP or PA experience.
  • Two (2) years of Gastroenterology APP experience.
  • Supervisor or leadership experience.
  • AGACNP National Nurse Practitioner Certification or National certification as a Physician Assistant.
  • Current BLS and CPR and all certifications required for area of work.
  • ACLS, PALS, and ENLS within three (3) months of hire
  • Graduation with a master's degree, DNP or PhD in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing. Graduation from an accredited PA program.
  • DEA within three (3) months of hire.
  • Possession of valid California RN and NP License, or valid PA license (defer to Min Education/Experience), in process or the ability to obtain California license by the time of hire
  • Furnishing license, in process or the ability to obtain California furnishing license by time of hire.
  • DEA within three (3) months of hire
  • Graduation with a master’s degree, DNP or PhD in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing or PA program. (defer to Min Education/Experience)
  • National board certification if an NP, in an aligned specialty (eg if mental health must have Psychiatric specialty national board certification) (defer to Min Education/Experience)
  • One year or greater experience as an APP leader preferred. (defer to Min Education/Experience)
  • One year or greater recent clinical experience in specialty care of the hiring department highly desirable, (defer to Min Education/Experience)
