Job Overview: The Nurse Practitioner works as part of the provider team performing a variety
of direct patient services including assessments, diagnosis, implementation of treatments,
evaluations, and monitoring the general patient management plan for clinic patients. The Nurse
Practitioner performs these functions in collaboration with a licensed physician in a primary
health care setting.

Job Responsibilities
Obtains complete medical history from patient, and/or family, and/or previous medical record,
etc.
Prescribes medications according to therapeutic goals, explains treatment to patients, and
families.
Develops and assists patient and/or family therapeutic and educational plans to promote
satisfactory patient outcomes.
Teaches and counsels individuals and families to assume responsibility for prevention of illness
and for the promotion, maintenance and restoration of health.
Consults with physicians and other members of the health care team as necessary.
Performs other necessary duties as required by the health center to meet the goals of providing
primary health care services.
Assesses, diagnosis, implements treatment, evaluates and monitors patients' health status.
Exercise sound clinical judgments based on assessment of the physical, psycho-social-cultural,
and environmental needs of patients
Performs complete physical examinations on patients.
Orders routine and diagnostic lab and x-ray studies as indicated
Diagnosis acute and chronic illness on the basis of clinical findings, laboratory and x-ray reports
and/or the results of other diagnostic procedures according to approved protocols.
Formulates, initiates and monitors patient management plans for patients assigned to the Nurse
Practitioner, using protocols and/or consultation with a supervising physician.
Refers patients to supervising physicians or appropriate specialist when appropriate. Follows
patients progress with physician.
Renders emergency care and treatments including cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Performs routine procedures within scope of practice.
Maintains all patient records to comply with required standards, reviews records regularly and
obtains physician counter signatures where necessary.
Attends all medical staff meetings and participates in the health center's QI/QA program.
Maintains effective working relationships.
Communicates in a professional manner with others.
Adheres to departmental policies, procedures and objectives, ongoing quality improvement
objectives and safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
Maintains patient confidentiality and complies with all federal and state health information
privacy laws.
Records complete, timely and legible medical records using an electronic medical recording
system.
Qualifications
1. Graduation from an accredited university, MSN.
2. Completion of accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
3. Current certification through a professional organization of their specialty.
4. Official recognition and current prescriptive authority through the state of South Carolina.
5. The ability to relate with effectiveness to patients and providers.
6. Must be qualified in Basic Life Support techniques.
7. Sufficient experience to carry out the duties of this position.
