This site hires providers directly as 'relief' which allows them to have ANY state license and DEA, and covers all travel and accommodations. They pay Apps directly $800 per day for clinic, $150/ day for weekday call and $300/weekend call.

Position: Arc Health is seeking intermittent Family Nurse Practitioners with outpatient primary care, emergency and urgent care experience for remote villages above the Arctic Circle. Successful candidates must be clinically capable, personally resilient and flexible, confident working in remote areas with limited resources, and passionate about providing high-quality care to patients in underserved areas. This position would begin as soon as credentialed.

Length: 1 month on at a time, minimum for 3-4 assignments per year. The site needs multiple assignment commitments throughout the year. Almost all schedule proposals accepted.

Support staff/EMR: CHA/Ps work within the guidelines of the Alaska Community Health Aide Manual (CHAM) in assessing and providing emergent, acute, and chronic care to residents of their respective communities. Alaska CHA/Ps are the front line of healthcare in their communities. EMR is Cerner.

Travel/Housing: Local housing and travel is fully arranged and paid for by the site.

Location/Population: 17-bed inpatient ward at main facility, no surgery or anesthesia, provides outpatient/ emergency care to Alaskan Natives. Within the system there is a strong network of Community Health Workers and Nurse Practitioners that staff the smaller, remote clinics.

Clinical Services: Clinical social work, inpatient/outpatient/women's health, midwifery, behavioral health services, dentistry, senior and disability services, suicide prevention, wellness groups, emergency services, WIC, diabetes and nutrition, injury prevention, tobacco prevention/control and more in Kotzebue. Closest medical center is 550 miles away by air

Experience required

Candidates must be:

  • Comfortable practicing solo and with limited resources
  • Committed to rural, Tribal, or underserved healthcare
  • Compassionate, mission-driven social medicine practitioners
  • RN and NP license in ANY state. Alaskan medical license strongly preferred, but not required to start.
  • Active, unrestricted DEA
  • Fast credentialing available
  • No malpractice or licensing/legal history
  • I cannot emphasize enough that successful candidate must be a strong, experienced provider (+3 years) able to pivot quickly and be creative with resources in an underserved, under-resourced area. Must be comfortable solo staffing. Must be culturally sensitive
