The Nurse Practitioner utilizes the medical model to meet a variety of healthcare needs with ambulatory care as their primary focus. The Nurse Practitioner works with a variety of healthcare professionals and security officers in a correctional environment and provides basic medical services supervised by a licensed Physician. The Nurse Practitioner has no managerial responsibilities.

Job Responsibilities

• Will be required to work within a correctional facility.
• Responds to and initiates care for medical emergencies throughout the facility.
• Identifies inmate /patient health problems and prescribes treatment under direction of a physician.
• Implements medical care utilizing therapeutic regimens approved by a Physician.
• Provides education to inmate /patient, healthcare, and correctional staff.
• Documents all healthcare contacts.
• Adheres to safety and security policies and participates in disaster drills. Follows security regulations for keys, sharps, and
• controlled medications.
• Assigns tasks to team members as needed.
• Adheres to Universal Precautions and other appropriate infection control practices.
• Attends training and meetings as required.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited college / university with current certification / licensure in the state of employment.
• Maintains required annual licensure and credentialing requirements for their specific mid-level provider credentials.
• Maintains an active CPR certification.

Working Hours

Mon-Fri 8a-4:30p
