Position Summary:
The Acute Care Nurse Practitioner is part of the multidisciplinary team, overseeing and managing acute patients and works closely with hospitalists, emergency physicians, subspecialists and support staff. Care will include performing history and physical examinations, developing a differential and working diagnosis, ordering laboratory and diagnostic studies and images, performing procedures within scope of practice, developing and ordering treatment plans; providing patient and family education, ordering of medications, and referring patients for specialty consultations as indicated. Incumbents in this class work independently under the general direction of a physician pursuant to state statute.

Job Requirement


Education/Experience: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and two (2) years of related clinical nursing experience.

Licensing/Certification Requirements: Valid State of Nevada License to Practice as a Registered Nurse, and; State of Nevada License to Practice as an Advanced Practice Nurse, and; State of Nevada Pharmacy Board License to Prescribe Medications, and; DEA Controlled Substance Registration Certificate, and; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Some positions may require Neonatal Resuscitation Protocol (NRP).


Additional and/or Preferred Position Requirements

Recent Documented experience preferred in the following:

  • Pre and post-operative management of cardiac, thoracic, and vascular patients in both an inpatient and outpatient setting.
  • Documented experience in an acute care setting, to include critical care, charge nurse & program coordinator experience.
  • Association Memberships - related to Critical Care & Cardiovascular


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Physical Requirements

Knowledge of:
Anatomy and physiology; chemistry; microbiology; age appropriate growth and development; pathophysiology and disease processes; current standards of medical and health care; limitations of the scope of practice; diagnostic tools; pharmacology; department and hospital safety practices and procedures; patient rights; infection control policies and practices; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures; age specific patient care practices.

Skill in:Diagnosing patient conditions and interpreting findings from examination and diagnostic tests; performing complete physical examinations; taking medical histories; writing information in patient chart; oral communication with patient to obtain information and convey health information; communicating effectively with a wide variety of patients from a diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds; using a variety of diagnostic tools, depending upon area of specialization; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:Mobility to work in a typical clinical setting and use standard equipment, stamina to remain standing and/or walk for extended periods of time, vision to read instruments, printed materials and a VDT screen, hearing and speech to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone.
