Overview

As part of the Ob Hospitalist Group (OBHG) clinical team, an Ob/Gyn embraces the following focus on delivering a quality Ob Hospitalist program: (1) Delivery of quality care that is evidence-based and consistent with the core values of OBHG, (2) A spirit of service to others including building and maintaining relationships with medical staff, nursing staff and hospital leadership, (3) A spirit of service to the OBHG team, (4) Connecting to the OBHG medical group network, and (5) financial stewardship. This position will be part of a team of clinicians at the assigned site working together with the support of clinical and operational leadership to ensure that the program is meeting OBHG’s and the hospital’s operational goals.

Delivery of Quality Care
• Remain abreast of changes in medical evidence and apply relevant changes to medical practice
• Deliver obstetrical and gynecological care to patients including but not limited to providing contraceptive services
• Ensure consistent performance of clinical services in accordance with program definition
• Deliver direct patient care to high-risk patients including situations where Maternal Fetal Medicine support may only be available by telephone or video consultation
• Participate in the development of clinical guidelines and protocols at the assigned site
• Ensure that practice consistently conforms to standards of care, relevant hospital and/or system guidelines, policies, and protocols
• Ensure that delivery of care is consistent with OBHG core values
• Participate in peer reviews or investigation of clinical incidents as requested
• Collaborate with team to ensure participation in overall quality initiatives
• Ensure in-person handoffs between clinicians using a standard format
• Participate daily in Labor and Delivery board rounds
• Participate in clinical drills
• Collaborate with OBHG’s quality department as requested
• Collaborate with OBHG physicians as appropriate to ensure patient safety and quality of care needs are met for each patient
• Completion of required educational courses (e.g. ACLS, BLS, NRP, FHR training)
• Completion of required corporate training

A Spirit of Service to Others
• Ensure that patient encounters meet the needs of the patient and their family
• Treat others with respect and courtesy
• Ensure timely response to calls/pages
• Serve as the ‘Safety Officer’ on Labor and Delivery to ensure that all patients, regardless of their primary admitting clinician, have the safest possible outcomes
• Support community physicians and midwives through clinical assistance as requested including practice coverage as requested and as safely available
• Participate in hospital meetings (e.g. department meetings, peer review, quality improvement)
• Active involvement in the management of patient flow in the outpatient office
• Reinforce the clinical aspects of OBHG value proposition in the community
• Arrive on time for assigned coverage periods
• Work with the team to ensure that there is 100% schedule coverage at assigned site

Fiscal Stewardship
• Ensure that patients are seen in a timely fashion
• Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the medical record; all charting must be completed by the end of the assigned shift
• Ensure accurate and timely completion and submission of billing information by the end of the assigned shift
• Ensure accurate and timely submission of requested quality data
• Collaborate with the hospital and team to deliver care that efficiently utilizes healthcare resources
• Communicate regularly with OBHG clinical leadership to discuss program concerns or opportunities
• Participate in monthly team meetings


Qualifications

Essential Skills/Credentials/Experience/Education
• Certified Nurse Midwife by the American Midwifery Certification Board
• Licensed to practice in the state of assigned site
• Highly relational, able to build strong rapport and positive working relationship with all stakeholders (Hospital leadership, hospitalist teams, nurses, staff physicians, and OBHG corporate staff)
• Team oriented, service minded, goal focused individual who believes in OBHG’s mission
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Skills/Credentials/Experience/Education
• Significant experience with obstetrical emergency care


Mental & Physical Demands

• Sitting for long periods of time
• Position also requires walking, standing, stooping or kneeling
• Regularly required to use computer keyboard, mouse and telephone
• Lift and carry objects such as books and files weighing up to 15 pounds
• Close vision work and ability to adjust focus
