Job Description
Seeking Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) Laborist to provide inpatient care, focusing on labor and delivery. The CNM will work closely with the OB/GYN team, assisting with deliveries, including C-sections, and managing postpartum care. This position is inpatient-only, without outpatient responsibilities, ensuring that the CNM can focus exclusively on providing quality care to laboring patients.
SCHEDULE:
- Rotating 12-hour shifts with night, weekend, and holiday coverage.
- 24/7 coverage shared among CNMs and OB/GYN physicians to ensure continuous care.
- No outpatient clinic responsibilities.
SUPPORT & RESOURCES:
- Collaborative practice model with OB/GYN physicians, anesthesiologists, and pediatricians.
- Dedicated labor and delivery nurses, anesthesia team, and surgical support for C-sections.
- Access to Cerner EMR for efficient documentation and patient management.
- CMC operates a Level 2 nursery, managing deliveries as early as 32 weeks gestation.
SCOPE OF PRACTICE:
- Manage routine vaginal deliveries and assist OB/GYN physicians with cesarean sections.
- Provide comprehensive care for patients during labor, delivery, and postpartum.
- Attend high-risk deliveries alongside the OB/GYN team as needed.
- Participate in patient education and birth plan development, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment for expecting mothers.
- Typical census: 8-12 deliveries per day, with an average of 1-2 C-sections per shift.
- No high-risk transfers or management of high-risk pregnancies beyond 32 weeks gestation; transfers made to Level 3 or 4 NICU facilities when necessary.
PATIENT DEMOGRAPHICS & VOLUME:
- Care for women of various backgrounds, focusing on normal and high-risk deliveries.
- Serve a diverse population ranging from adolescents to adults.
- Manage prenatal, labor, and postpartum care for up to 1800-2000 annual deliveries as part of the hospital’s expansion.
Requirements:
- Board-certified and licensed as a Certified Nurse Midwife in South Carolina.
- Experience in labor and delivery, including managing routine deliveries and assisting with C-sections.
- BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications required.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills within a multidisciplinary team.
