Call Details:
Typically, they do not schedule new Locums for call, but there is an opportunity to do that once both parties (client and Locum) are comfortable.

We have a 12-week rotation our CRNAs rotate through. Usually, the CRNA would only be on "2nd call" (meaning day shift, last to leave, then available by beeper with a 20-minute call back time) or on "1st call" (in house 3p-7a) per week. There is one week, that comes up approx. once or twice in this 12-week rotation that would be one of each in a one-week time frame.

New CRNA Locums will usually not do 1st call (3p-7a or 7a-7a). It will take at least a month, to 3 months, before they would be required to do in-house coverage. Simply because they need to know where all departments are and be very comfortable, not only here, but also with critical airways on their own as their next set of hands is a provider who is on call from home.

Frequently Asked Questions:
  • What types of cases are the CRNA’s working on? Gen, urology, occasional GYN (No OB), ortho- tends to be more trauma than routine joints, occasional healthy peds, neuro (backs and heads), vascular, cath lab (Watchmans, TAVRs, endovascular cases, heart ablations), and in radiology (MRI, cryoablations)
  • Would the site be willing to accept a CRNA that does not do OB or PEDS? Yes, we do not do OB, so not a big deal. We occasionally do healthy peds, as long as not working in house overnight/weekends it would be ok if they do not do peds
  • Are block skills required? Blocks are NOT required, we do a few but due to our practice model usually it is the anesthesiologist doing most of them
  • How many CRNAs/MDAs are onsite each shift? Monday- Friday we staff up to 8 CRNAs and up to 3 MDAs on site. After 7pm & on the weekends, we staff 1 CRNA in house, 1 CRNA at home on call (20-minute call back time) and 2 MDAs on call from home (20-minute call back time)
  • Do they have the day after call off? When a CRNA works in house M-F 3p-7a, yes, they are post call off, If they work a Sunday 7a-7a, yes, they are off post call. When they take call from home, they are not off the next day.
  • Would a 2 week on, 2 week off schedule acceptable? Yes, a 2 week on/2 week off schedule would be acceptable
