Clinical Role:
    • Under the supervision/collaboration with an Anesthesiologist and/or surgeon/attending physician, performs a variety of professional patient care duties, such as:
      • Evaluation of and administering anesthetics to patients for surgical, therapeutic, diagnostic and obstetric procedures
      • Reviewing patient data to determine the equipment and anesthetic technique to be used
      • Informing the patient regarding anesthesia procedures
      • Observing, monitoring, and documenting the anesthetized patient’s condition
      • Initiating remedial measures in response to patient’s condition
      • Keeping current regarding methods and techniques
    • Essential Functions:
      • Equipment. Sets up and checks anesthesia machines, equipment and medications, prepares additional equipment as needed. Connects appropriate monitoring equipment to patient. Prior to administration of anesthesia the CRNA documents same on the anesthesia record. Will complete departmental anesthesia pre-op checklist and all records needed to document quality patient care
      • Anesthesia Administration/Care of Patients. Performs nursing/anesthesia assessment, planning, interventions and ongoing monitoring of assigned patients. Evaluates patient prior to anesthesia for proper presentation for anesthesia. Confers with appropriate physician(s) and Anesthesiologist as to type of anesthesia services. Administers anesthesia for surgical, therapeutic, diagnostic and obstetric procedures. Accompanies patient to PACU or ICU/CCU and remains with patient as required by the patient’s condition until care has been assumed by other qualified individuals and the patient’s condition is stable. Communicates a complete report to receiving nurse/provider which includes specific problems presented by patient’s condition. Responds to urgent and emergent patient situations (e.g., cardiac arrest, trauma) and on-call patient care responsibilities as required per hospital policy and job assignment. Provides anesthesia services throughout the hospital when requested
      • Documentation. Records all pertinent events taking place during the induction of, maintenance of, and emergence from anesthesia. Maintains accurate and legible anesthesia records throughout the case. Completes all charge tickets, reports and logs that are pertinent to the anesthesia service. Collaborates with Anesthesiologist /Physician to ensure anesthesia orders are signed by the Anesthesiologist/Physician
      • Education. Attends and participates in department/hospital meetings, mandatory education days. Attends continuing education programs to maintain clinical competency and certifications and licensure. Accepts responsibility for personal and professional growth. Maintains documentation of attendance at annual training, mandatory education, and seminars attended
      • CQI. Participates in Quality Assessment and Improvement (QA/I) activities (e.g., education, measurement/monitoring, review, team participation, etc.) in conjunction with the Hospital’s QA/I plan, goals and objectives. Participates in data collection and case review for QA activities
      • Customer First. Complies with and/or implements the Customer First philosophy, as well as all hospital, human relations, safety, health, human resources and departmental policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines, and meets all licensing accreditation requirements
      • Age Specific. Understands and can access information regarding issues related to infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients
      • Other Duties. Performs all other duties as assigned by the Director of Anesthesiology or designee
    • Training & Skills (include but are not limited to):
      • Must have the ability to work independently and organize several projects
      • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the day
      • Must be able to speak the English language in an understandable manner
      • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position
      • Must be able to see and hear, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met
      • Able to lift, push and pull patients, weighing up to 350 pounds, with assistance, in wheelchairs or carts. Able to stand and walk up to 90% of a 8/12-hour working day. Able to bend, stoop, and squat as required to reach lower drawers in medication carts, to adjust patient line, etc., able to reach over head to obtain supplies, and hang and adjust IVs.
      • Compliance with all Medical Center policies and practices as described in the employee handbook
      • Technology driven organization and employees need to demonstrate competency in Microsoft Windows

      • Procedures (included but not limited to):
      • Adult and pediatric venipuncture
      • Arterial line insertion
      • Medication calculation and effects
      • Sterile technique
      • Airway maintenance
      • Administration and management of regional anesthetics
