Job Summary

We are seeking highly skilled and dedicated Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) to join our team at the Houston VA Medical Center. The ideal candidates will be responsible for providing a complete range of anesthesia care for a diverse Veteran population, including preoperative assessment, intraoperative anesthetic administration and monitoring, and post-anesthesia care. The CRNA will work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to ensure the highest quality of care.

Job Responsibilities

Preoperative Assessment: Perform pre-anesthetic evaluations, including patient history and physical exams, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to prepare the anesthesia plan.
Anesthetic Administration: Administer all forms of anesthesia (inhalation, regional, intravenous, local, and topical) and continuously evaluate the patient’s physical status and response to anesthesia.
Intraoperative Monitoring: Provide intraoperative anesthetic management and monitoring, ensuring patient safety and optimal outcomes.
Postoperative Care: Perform post-anesthetic management to optimize recovery from anesthesia and minimize pain.
Emergency Response: Provide emergency airway management and resuscitation throughout the facility, serving as part of the Code Blue Team.
Documentation: Ensure timely and accurate anesthetic record charting and anesthesia service documentation.
Education: Guide and train doctoral level anesthesia students and medical students from Baylor College of Medicine and UT Health Science Center Houston.
Professional Conduct: Maintain patient confidentiality and a safe patient care environment, demonstrating professional behavior and effective communication skills.

Qualifications

Educational Requirements: Minimum of a master’s degree in nursing with CRNA certification.
Licensure: Current and valid certification as a CRNA.
Experience: Relevant experience in clinical anesthesia, including a variety of surgical procedures.
Compliance: Knowledge of and adherence to national Joint Commission accreditation standards and VA policies.

Working Hours

Schedule:

8-hour shifts: Day 6:45 AM - 3:15 PM; Evening 11:00 AM - 7:30 PM
10-hour shifts: Day 6:45 AM - 5:15 PM; Evening 11:00 AM - 10:30 PM
12-hour shifts: 9:45 AM - 7:15 PM

Technical Proficiency: Expert in administering various forms of anesthesia and managing anesthesia for a broad range of surgical procedures.
Clinical Skills: Strong capability in performing pre-anesthetic evaluations, intraoperative monitoring, and postoperative care.
Diagnostic Skills: Ability to conduct and manage anesthesia in complex situations, applying new developments and theories.
Patient Management: Ability to provide comprehensive care, including emergency airway and resuscitation management.
