Company Information
Good Neighbor Community Health Center is a Joint Commission certified, Federally Qualified Health Center, and Patient Centered Medical Home with two clinics in Columbus and Fremont, Nebraska. As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), our integrated practice includes family and general practice medicine, pediatrics, OB/GYN care, reproductive health, behavioral health, and dental services, and we see patients from birth to end of life. Good Neighbor clinics are key safety net providers in their seven-county region, impacting 10,000+ patients annually, mostly from underserved populations. Many Good Neighbor patients come from beyond the identified seven county service area; the patient population represents 45 ZCTAs (zip code tabulation areas).
In addition to our core services, GNCHC provides low-cost transportation to and from appointments; assistance enrolling in Medicaid, Medicare, and other state and federal assistance programs and; an on-site pharmacy. Good Neighbor clinics have on-site x-ray services and a moderate-to-complex lab.
In Columbus, Good Neighbor is co-located with a district health department, East Central District Health Department. This co-location facilitates referrals between the agencies, enhancing the "one-stop" model of care that FQHCs represent. The Columbus GNCHC location also has a QuickCare walk-in clinic that follows the same financial/insurance guidelines as the main clinic, but provides its services on a same-day, no appointment needed model.
Joining the practice at Good Neighbor offers a great opportunity to work with underserved populations, positively impacting patient health with no financial or other barriers to prevent their seeking care. Many of our patients are at or below 100% of the Federal Poverty Level, speak a first language other than English, and are un(der)insured or on Medicaid, which is not accepted by many providers in the area.
Good Neighbor has worked diligently to develop good relationships with community partners in the area, and is considered an essential safety-net provider. Without Good Neighbor clinics, many more persons would end up seeking primary medical care in area ERs.
Company History
The 29,400 square foot, $6.7 million project doubled the size of the previous facility and allowed staff and programs, which had been housed in three different Columbus locations, to be together in one building. The majority of the building is devoted to patient space, including medical and behavioral health care, dental care and the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program along with x-ray facilities, a medical lab and a FEMA safe room. A limited building remodel that incorporated unused space added a QuickCare same day clinic that opened in Columbus in Fall 2023.
In 2014 Good Neighbor Community Health Center applied for, and received, a New Access Point grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). On August 1, 2015 the new clinic, known as Good Neighbor Fremont, began seeing patients at its 2400 North Lincoln Ave. location. By 2016, Good Neighbor Fremont had outgrown the 4,480 sq. ft. rental building on North Lincoln Ave. In order to meet the needs of their patients, Good Neighbor Fremont purchased a 10,926 sq. ft. building at 2740 N. Clarkson St. in Fremont and in May 2017 began offering expanded services at this new location.
