Community Health of Central Washington was founded with one bold and clear vision: All people in our region should enjoy access to affordable and appropriate health care. Our mission is to provide quality healthcare through service and education. That sounds simple enough. But providing quality health care service is complex.

Primary Care

Community Health of Central Washington is growing to meet the needs of our communities. But being big is not what makes us great. It is a thousand little things that make us great. Things like: dedicated primary care practitioners – family doctors, pediatricians, internists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and dental providers – working together for quality, and working individually to be a personal care provider to each of their patients.

We team those providers with more than 140 additional staff members to assist patients with information, education, coordination, and support they need to manage their own health and to navigate today’s complex health care system; pharmacists, psychologists, outreach workers, nurse care managers, lab techs, x-ray techs and others who, as part of the care team, expand the scope of services available to patients at CHCW sites.

Today, CHCW is the medical home for more than 30,000 people in Central Washington. We provide comprehensive care for all ages, regardless of the ability to pay. Our patients receive preventive services, care for acute and chronic illness, and care in our clinics, hospitals and other sites. We provide prenatal and obstetric services in Yakima and Kittitas Counties.

Teaching

Education has always been an important part of our mission. Our family medicine residency has operated since 1993, and 30 resident family medicine residency program and provides a rich learning experience. CWFMR has been dually accredited since 2005, the oldest dually accredited program in WWAMI. For years our osteopathic residents have graduated, and will graduate, with dual board certification. As such, we’ve always been on the forefront of osteopathic education, and lead the way in Washington State being the first program with ACGME accreditation and Osteopathic Recognition.

24 of the residents are based in Yakima for training and provide care to a diverse patient population at our Central Washington Family Medicine Clinic in Yakima. The remaining 6 residents are Ellensburg based for a large part of their training and provide much needed care to a more rural population.

The Yakima Valley and Kittitas County

The Yakima Valley is a growing agricultural center and one of the country’s most important agricultural hubs. As the producer of over 75 percent of the hops in the United States and the home to over 100 wineries, Yakima Valley is filled with rolling hills of fruit orchards, hops fields, and vineyards.

If the arts and entertainment is what you and your family enjoy, sit back and listen to the Yakima Symphony at the Seasons Performance Hall or a show or concert at the Yakima Capital Theater, or jazz at the Ellensburg Jazz Festival. Outdoor concerts are a special treat and offered free of charge at many of the nationally-acclaimed wineries or breweries located throughout the Valley.

With four distinct seasons, outdoor experiences are available year-round. Centered within miles of some of the country’s most epic beauty, the Yakima Valley and Kittitas County provides a balance of nature with the culture and excitement of local entertainment venues as well as some of the nation’s most exciting cities nearby.

Situated in the Kittitas Co, Ellensburg, WA is home to Central Washington University and Ellensburg Rodeo “America’s Top 10 Rodeos”. Downtown Ellensburg is a place to discover year-round with its ongoing street festivals, live music, foodie finds, an eclectic art scene, brand-name clothing, one-of-a-kind shops, historic tours and museums, impressive public art, a vibrant farmer's market, fun art programs, and a beer lover's paradise.

The Pacific Northwest is a wonderful place to live for both providers and their families and the Yakima Valley and Kittitas County is located at its center. For example, the Cascades, Mt. Adams, Mt. Rainier, Yakima Canyon, and the beautiful Columbia River Gorge can be reached within hours. And if you’re craving for the fast-pace of world-class cities-- Seattle, Portland, and Spokane are only a 2-3 hour drive.
