This position is accountable for the provision of patient care and other activities as permitted by licensure and defined within Credentialing and Privileging documentation (hospital), Credentialing and Scope of Practice (Medical Group), Delegation of Services Agreement (DOPL) or other similar documentation as appropriate. As part of that patient care, this position is accountable to: deliver optimal patient care through effective clinical practice; education of the patient, patient's family, clinical staff, and others; consultation with other healthcare providers; and maintain current knowledge regarding options for optimal patient care and outcomes.

This Advanced Practice Provider will join our Thoracic Surgery team at Intermountain Medical Center, a level I trauma center in Murray, Utah. Our multidisciplinary practice is made up of three surgeons and four advanced practice providers, with additional opportunities to interface with peers across our healthcare organization.

The APP will first assist in thoracic surgeries, round on patients in the hospital, and provide care in our outpatient clinic. It is anticipated the APP will spend time evenly between the three settings, adjusting as needed dependent on patient care and department needs. We provide care to adult patents with a variety of conditions including lung cancer, benign lung diseases and lung tumors, chest reconstruction, esophageal cancers, emphysema, and abdominal surgeries. We also care for some adolescents (>14 years, with chest wall reconstruction).

The APP will typically be scheduled 4 10-hour shifts per week. In addition, they will be expected to pick up call 1 night per week and one weekend in five, fielding after-hours calls and participating in emergent or late surgeries.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One or more years of surgical experience is highly preferred

  • Prior clinical experience in an inpatient or ICU setting

Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) are accountable for the provision of patient care at the top of licensure, within their scope of practice. Licensed, credentialed and privileged to perform such duties as:

  • Maintenance and promotion of health and prevention of disease;
  • Assessment, diagnosis, treatment, correction, and consultation;
  • Procedures as outlined by specialty, and referral for health problems;
  • Education of the patient, patient's family, clinical staff, and others;
  • Prescription or administration of prescription drugs or devices in accordance with a consultation and referral plan;
  • Consultation with other healthcare providers;
  • Appropriate and timely documentation of clinical care;
  • Continually learning and developing for optimal patient care and outcomes.
  • Advanced Practice Providers may also participate in research, utilize evidence-based practice to improve quality patient care, protocol development, care process model development, and best practice standards for assigned patient population throughout our organization.
